James Gunn to write and direct

In early 2017, James Gunn announced that he would write and direct a third ‘Guardians of the Galaxy film. He stated that the third film would be his last in the series. He also indicated that he is working on a spinoff television series based on the popular superhero, The Suicide Squad.

The GOTG franchise has been a massive success for Marvel Studios, earning $773 million worldwide in 2014. The movie also helped Marvel push its cinematic universe into the cosmic sphere. In addition to the return of the Guardians, there is a new cast member, a space dog named Cosmo the Spacedog. Maria Bakalova voices the space dog. She also has a small role in the movie.

Plot point

Despite the name, the latest Guardians of the Galaxy movie will not have Rocket or Drax on the team. The team will likely feature an entirely different group of cosmic beings: a ragtag crew of Ravagers led by Ayesha. The movie will also feature a new character: a space dog known as Cosmo the Spacedog.

The Guardians join forces with the space dog to defend the galaxy from a mysterious entity known as Ronin. This leads to the central conflict in the movie.

The Guardians take on Ronin and his Sovereign swarm. In the process, the Guardians discover the true purpose of the orb and its significance. Ultimately, the team decides not to sell it to the Sovereign but to take it to the Collector, a powerful benefactor.

To do so, they purchase a piece of land called Knowhere from the Collector. On their way there, they have a run-in with a group of Ravagers led by Taserface.

Release date

Earlier this year, James Gunn announced that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would open in the United States on May 5, 2023. It is a 32nd Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. The movie is written and direct by Gunn.

The movie is expect to include new characters and the return of the core Guardians. It is also likely to deal with the fallout from Avengers: Endgame. The movie also includes the return of Gamora. Elizabeth Debicki will reprise her role as Ayesha. Bradley Cooper will star as Rocket. Dave Bautista will star as Drax.
